Been meaning to ask this. Just moved here 16 months ago and Homes are going for about $191,200 on average. Poverty rate is 8.0%, which is pretty low. With a population of 27,081, Round Lake Beach is a smaller city. You can expect to pay around $1,382 for rent here. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Does this match your experience? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.
I've been here 9 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is decent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The North side vs the Eastside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
No regrets on my end..

I've lived in Lakewood for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Chicago, I was surprised by traffic. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- The nightlife scene is underrated
The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Far from beaches/mountains
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for families. Happy to answer more specific questions..

My experience has been mostly positive. I genuinely enjoy living here. The only thing I'd watch out for is school system. Other than that, No regrets on my end..

Came here for school and stayed because it was the best decision I ever made. The nightlife is honestly better than expected and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Riverside for 5 years. Moved from Chicago for a fresh start. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is tough. We bought in 2015 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.
**Employment:**
healthcare is strong here. hospitality is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are wild for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I love the pace of life here. The outdoor scene is challenging - we have mountains within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Riverside schools are tough. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Traffic during rush hour is rough. Nightlife is limited. And traffic can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For young professionals, I'd say this is a 8/10. Feel free to reach out with questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from Raleigh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Fairview. It's decent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in real estate. If you're in real estate you might struggle.
People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 18 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like craft beer.
Definitely worth checking out..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.
I've been here 4 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is excellent.
