Worst things about Round Lake Beach nobody talks about
First post here. We have two kids and Median household income is $86,632, which feels pretty solid for the area. Household incomes average around $86,632 in Round Lake Beach. Average temperature is around 49--F, so expect cold winters. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Has anyone dealt with this? People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The suburbs are where most families end up. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Property taxes are high but you get good services. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a HR manager who relocated here from San Francisco about 14 years ago. The main reasons were work and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Dating scene is rough
Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are affordable, gas is tough.
Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Happy to answer more specific questions..

I'm a data analyst and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. The community is average and there's always something going on.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are pretty good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a contractor, 39, moved here 2 years ago from Houston. I've lived in North and West, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Good schools in most areas
3. Strong job market in several industries
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Road conditions need improvement
2. Limited entertainment options
3. The public transit situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- North: Great for young professionals. challenging vibes, walkable.
- West: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Houston, everything felt surprisingly good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $70K-$70K here.
**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want food scene, then yeah this place is great. But if safety matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

I've lived in Downtown for about 12 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Nashville, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- The outdoor recreation scene is excellent
The downsides:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Can feel isolated
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for singles. Happy to answer more specific questions..

My experience has been mostly positive. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The only thing I'd watch out for is outdoor recreation. Other than that, Definitely worth checking out..

Hot take but it exceeded my expectations. I know a lot of people disagree but after 11 years here, that's my honest assessment.
