Best apartments in Round Lake under ?

Hi all, I'm a nurse at the local hospital and It's a a small town city with about 18,588 people. Rent is about $1,494/month for a decent place. The median home value here is around $257,400, which seems about average. The unemployment rate is 4.8%, which is about average. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

Pros:
- Great weather
- Friendly people
- Growing food scene
- Close to nature
- Active local events

Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- Hot summers
- Not very walkable
- Boring for young people
- Limited cultural events
I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The suburbs are where most families end up. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The suburbs are where most families end up. The food scene here is surprisingly good. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The weather takes some getting used to. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Came here for family and stayed because I genuinely enjoy living here. The cost of living is honestly excellent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in North for 11 years. Moved from Houston for my partner's job. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is pretty good. We bought in 2022 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.

**Employment:**
healthcare is strong here. legal is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are stable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
the quality of life is solid. The outdoor scene is improving - we have desert landscapes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. North schools are improving. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited high-paying job options. Limited entertainment options. And cultural scene can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 5/10. Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.

I've been here 9 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the walkability is legit. And if you're into running, this place is underrated.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Meadowbrook side vs the The Heights side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

My experience has been mostly positive. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The only thing I'd watch out for is community vibe. Other than that, No regrets on my end..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are decent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from San Diego and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Maple Ridge. It's tough for what you get.

Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in engineering you might struggle.

People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

We moved here with our family and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Schools in East area are hit or miss. Kids love it here.
