Longtime lurker here, It's a a mid-size city city with about 124K people. Any advice would be great.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from Nashville and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in East. It's underrated for what you get.
Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in tech you might struggle.
People: Generally better than expected. It took about 18 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

We moved here with our family and the quality of life is solid. Schools in Lakewood area are average. Kids love it here.

Background: I'm a real estate agent, 50, moved here 10 years ago from San Diego. I've lived in East and Oak Park, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Friendly community, easy to meet people
3. Growing food and restaurant scene
4. The people are generally solid - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Homeless population growing downtown
3. The dating scene situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- East: Great for young professionals. underrated vibes, walkable.
- Oak Park: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from San Diego, everything felt surprisingly good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is developing. You can live comfortably on $50K-$100K here.

I've been here 11 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is traffic. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the job market is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is tough.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The West side vs the East side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

I've been living here for 8 years and I'd say it's not perfect but it works for me. The school system is surprisingly good compared to other places I've lived. Overall It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Came here for a job opportunity and stayed because I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The outdoor recreation is honestly better than expected and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
