Curious what people think. Just moved here 11 months ago and Crime rate is something to consider -Rowlett sits at 128.3 per 100K. The unemployment rate is 2.7%, which is pretty low. You can expect to pay around $1,964 for rent here. Average temperature is around 66--F, so the weather is moderate. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Has anyone dealt with this? The suburbs are where most families end up. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. it's been a really good experience overall. Compared to Pittsburgh it's tough.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value dating scene, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely pretty good and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (West) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Charlotte, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Not a lot of cultural diversity.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
