Not sure if this has been asked before, but I'm a teacher here and The median home value here is around $342,400, which seems about average. Median household income is $113,600, which feels pretty solid for the area. Average temperature is around 66--F, so the weather is moderate. Poverty rate is 5.7%, which is pretty low. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Is this normal for Rowlett? I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The food scene here is surprisingly good. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The suburbs are where most families end up. The city has invested a lot in new development. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from Nashville and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Maple Ridge. It's better than expected for what you get.
Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in construction you might struggle.
People: Generally underrated. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely pretty good and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Old Town) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Dallas, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.
I've been here 5 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is hit or miss.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Downtown side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Internet is average in most areas.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are hit or miss, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
