Moving to Roy with kids -good idea?

Hey everyone, Born and raised here. Median household income is $91,112, which feels pretty solid for the area. Average temperature is around 52--F, so expect cold winters. The suburbs are where most families end up. Does this match your experience?

We moved here with our family and it exceeded my expectations. Schools in Lakewood area are better than expected. Kids love it here.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Raleigh and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Riverside. It's hit or miss for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.

People: Generally solid. It took about 18 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like Korean.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

My experience has been mostly positive. I genuinely enjoy living here. The only thing I'd watch out for is outdoor recreation. Other than that, Good luck with whatever you decide..

Hot take but I genuinely enjoy living here. I know a lot of people disagree but after 9 years here, that's my honest assessment.

I've been living here for 5 years and I'd say it's exactly what I was looking for. The nightlife is solid compared to other places I've lived. Overall It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, the quality of life is solid. No regrets on my end..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a physical therapist who relocated here from Austin about 12 years ago. The main reasons were weather and a fresh start.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Decent public transit for the size
- Four distinct seasons

Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Limited entertainment options

Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are growing, gas is decent.

Socially, the quality of life is solid. No regrets on my end..
