Planning a move to Rumson -neighborhoods?

So, I grew up here but left for a while. With a population of 7,265, Rumson is a small town. Household incomes average around $250,001 in Rumson. Average temperature is around 54--F, so expect cold winters. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Anyone in a similar situation? The weather takes some getting used to. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want cultural scene, then yeah this place is great. But if housing market matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a marketing manager, 45, moved here 8 years ago from Raleigh. I've lived in Lakewood and Downtown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Low crime in most neighborhoods
2. Good airport with direct flights
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally average - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Summers can be brutally hot
2. Can feel isolated
3. The healthcare situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Lakewood: Great for young professionals. solid vibes, walkable.
- Downtown: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Raleigh, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $40K-$120K here.

**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a lawyer, 45, moved here 12 years ago from Chicago. I've lived in Downtown and Springfield, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good schools in most areas
2. Active local events and festivals
3. Four distinct seasons
4. The people are generally pretty good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Can feel isolated
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The safety situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Downtown: Great for retirees. tough vibes, walkable.
- Springfield: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Chicago, everything felt solid. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $80K-$70K here.

**Final verdict:**
No regrets on my end.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's been a really good experience overall. Definitely worth checking out..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.

I've been here 2 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is hit or miss.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Meadowbrook side vs the Uptown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Definitely worth checking out..

I've lived in North for about 9 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from Atlanta, I was surprised by safety. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good schools in most areas
- The housing market scene is average

The downsides:
- Dating scene is rough
- Homeless population growing downtown

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for retirees. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
