OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Raleigh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Old Town. It's average for what you get.
Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in legal. If you're in engineering you might struggle.
People: Generally solid. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: tough. Tons of options if you like seafood.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a social worker, 53, moved here 15 years ago from LA. I've lived in Downtown and North, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Lots of new development happening
2. Good internet infrastructure
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Limited public transit options
3. The pet-friendliness situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Downtown: Great for singles. excellent vibes, walkable.
- North: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from LA, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $60K-$100K here.
**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Bought a house here in 2017 and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from Atlanta and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in North. It's surprisingly good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in tech you might struggle.
People: Generally improving. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Weather-wise, the summers are hit or miss and winters are manageable. You get used to it after the first year.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value weather, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely pretty good and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Highland) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Miami, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a sales manager who relocated here from Seattle about 4 years ago. The main reasons were weather and school.
Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Strong job market in several industries
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Limited entertainment options
Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are affordable, gas is average.
Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want pet-friendliness, then yeah this place is great. But if weather matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is community vibe. it was the best decision I ever made. Worth doing your research before committing.

Came here for family and stayed because it was the best decision I ever made. The pet-friendliness is honestly excellent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Public transit is solid here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I genuinely enjoy living here.
