Freelancing from Rye Brook -experience?

Been meaning to ask this. The unemployment rate is 3.8%, which is pretty low. Crime rate is something to consider -Rye Brook sits at 180.7 per 100K. Poverty rate is 6.1%, which is pretty low. Household incomes average around $236,968 in Rye Brook. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The city has invested a lot in new development. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Property taxes are high but you get good services. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The city has invested a lot in new development. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Public transit is hit or miss here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it exceeded my expectations.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Westside for 10 years. Moved from Miami for work. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is hit or miss. We bought in 2023 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.

**Employment:**
tech is strong here. engineering is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are established for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I have mixed feelings honestly. The outdoor scene is pretty good - we have national forests within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Westside schools are pretty good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited high-paying job options. Limited entertainment options. And traffic can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For young professionals, I'd say this is a 5/10. Happy to answer more specific questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value dating scene, you'll love it. The cost of living is genuinely better than expected and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (North) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Atlanta, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Not a lot of cultural diversity.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Bought a house here in 2024 and I'm still on the fence after all this time. Property values have gone about the same since then.
