First post here. I'm retired and Homes are going for about $1,785,400 on average. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Should I be concerned? The weather takes some getting used to. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. it exceeded my expectations. Compared to Nashville it's average.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a nurse who relocated here from Minneapolis about 6 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Lots of new development happening
- Close to major attractions
Cons that are real:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Dating scene is rough
Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are pricey, gas is improving.
Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Feel free to reach out with questions..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a software engineer, 51, moved here 8 years ago from New York. I've lived in Pine Hills and West, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Lots of new development happening
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Not a lot of cultural diversity
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The public transit situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Pine Hills: Great for singles. decent vibes, walkable.
- West: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from New York, everything felt underrated. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $90K-$150K here.
**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
