Hey folks, We're a young couple and Household incomes average around $237,727 in Rye. Homes are going for about $1,785,400 on average. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Should I be concerned? People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. it's not perfect but it works for me. Compared to Portland it's solid.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a sales manager, 50, moved here 15 years ago from Atlanta. I've lived in Sunset and Riverside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Low crime in most neighborhoods
2. Nice parks and green spaces
3. Decent public transit for the size
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Nightlife is limited
2. Dating scene is rough
3. The dating scene situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Sunset: Great for couples. pretty good vibes, walkable.
- Riverside: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Atlanta, everything felt surprisingly good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $70K-$90K here.
**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Used to live on the North side, now on the South side. Completely different vibe. it's exactly what I was looking for.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.
I've been here 3 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is nightlife. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is underrated.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Springfield side vs the Oak Park side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Feel free to reach out with questions..

I've lived in Old Town for about 11 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Pittsburgh, I was surprised by job market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Decent public transit for the size
- The housing market scene is improving
The downsides:
- Nightlife is limited
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for couples. Good luck with whatever you decide..
