Moving to Sacramento with kids — good idea?

Hey everyone, I'm a college student here and Household incomes average around $83,753 in Sacramento. Average temperature is around 61°F, so the weather is moderate. It's a a major city city with about 525K people. The suburbs are where most families end up. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. What are your go-to spots? I'd say it's better for families than young singles. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Property taxes are high but you get good services. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The weather is genuinely excellent and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Midtown) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Charlotte, be prepared for the culture shock. housing market is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
