Hi all, Poverty rate is 10.3%, which is around average. Crime rate is something to consider — Sacramento sits at 627.1 per 100K. Rent is about $1,694/month for a decent place. With a population of 525K, Sacramento is a major city. The suburbs are where most families end up. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The city has invested a lot in new development. Any advice would be great. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The city has invested a lot in new development. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value school system, you'll love it. The safety is genuinely decent and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Downtown) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from San Diego, be prepared for the culture shock. dating scene is completely different here. And Chain restaurants dominate.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Came here for work and stayed because I genuinely enjoy living here. The cultural scene is honestly challenging and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I've lived in North for about 15 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from Raleigh, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Strong job market in several industries
- The nightlife scene is better than expected
The downsides:
- Nightlife is limited
- Limited entertainment options
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for retirees. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Hot take but it exceeded my expectations. I know a lot of people disagree but after 10 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Compared to Portland it's excellent.
