Hey everyone, I'm a college student here and Homes are going for about $54,000 on average. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Anyone in a similar situation? Looking forward to hearing from you all. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The weather takes some getting used to. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Weather-wise, the summers are average and winters are reasonable. You get used to it after the first year.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is food scene. I have mixed feelings honestly. Worth doing your research before committing.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are decent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a nurse who relocated here from Tampa about 1 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good airport with direct flights
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Chain restaurants dominate
Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are established, gas is better than expected.
Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Good luck with whatever you decide..

I've lived in Highland for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Portland, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Four distinct seasons
- The housing market scene is decent
The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Road conditions need improvement
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for singles. Feel free to reach out with questions..
