First post here. I'm a teacher here and Crime rate is something to consider -Saginaw sits at 1,474.3 per 100K. Rent is about $909/month for a decent place. The median home value here is around $54,000, which is actually reasonable. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Am I overthinking this? TIA! I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The city has invested a lot in new development. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's exactly what I was looking for. Internet is excellent in most areas.

Weather-wise, the summers are surprisingly good and winters are established. You get used to it after the first year.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. the quality of life is solid. Compared to Denver it's surprisingly good.

I've been living here for 11 years and I'd say there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The traffic is improving compared to other places I've lived. Overall It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is healthcare. I genuinely enjoy living here. Worth doing your research before committing.

Bought a house here in 2015 and the quality of life is solid. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a teacher who relocated here from Portland about 5 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good healthcare facilities
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Can feel isolated
Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are developing, gas is challenging.
Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Good luck with whatever you decide..
