What surprised you most about Saks?

My family moved here when I was a kid. Poverty rate is 10.8%, which is around average. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Worth the trade-offs? It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The weather takes some getting used to.

Used to live on the Riverside side, now on the North side. Completely different vibe. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

Hot take but it was the best decision I ever made. I know a lot of people disagree but after 10 years here, that's my honest assessment.

I've lived in Maple Ridge for about 5 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from Salt Lake City, I was surprised by job market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good internet infrastructure
- The healthcare scene is underrated

The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Summers can be brutally hot

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for retirees. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from Pittsburgh and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Midtown. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in engineering. If you're in legal you might struggle.

People: Generally average. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: improving. Tons of options if you like craft beer.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I love the pace of life here. Internet is improving in most areas.

Came here for a fresh start and stayed because it's not perfect but it works for me. The weather is honestly tough and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I've lived in The Heights for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from Portland, I was surprised by food scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Lots of new development happening
- The outdoor recreation scene is excellent

The downsides:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for singles. Good luck with whatever you decide..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a data analyst, 46, moved here 7 years ago from Salt Lake City. I've lived in The Heights and Cedar Grove, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Good schools in most areas
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally solid - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Rising rent and home prices
3. The safety situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- The Heights: Great for couples. excellent vibes, walkable.
- Cedar Grove: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Salt Lake City, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $40K-$140K here.

**Final verdict:**
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
