Is Salem Lakes good for remote workers?

Hey everyone, I grew up here but left for a while. The unemployment rate is 3.2%, which is pretty low. The median home value here is around $281,500, which seems about average. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Anyone in a similar situation? The city has invested a lot in new development. The weather takes some getting used to. The weather takes some getting used to. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The weather takes some getting used to. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The suburbs are where most families end up.

I've been living here for 6 years and I'd say I have mixed feelings honestly. The healthcare is underrated compared to other places I've lived. Overall Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Salt Lake City about 2 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and a fresh start.

Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Good healthcare facilities
- Good internet infrastructure

Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Can feel isolated

Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are reasonable, gas is challenging.

Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Good luck with whatever you decide..

I'm a software engineer and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. The community is hit or miss and there's always something going on.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a marketing manager, 34, moved here 3 years ago from Portland. I've lived in The Heights and Meadowbrook, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Growing food and restaurant scene
3. Decent public transit for the size
4. The people are generally tough - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Not very walkable outside downtown
2. Limited shopping options
3. The traffic situation is affordable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- The Heights: Great for singles. tough vibes, walkable.
- Meadowbrook: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Portland, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $60K-$120K here.

**Final verdict:**
No regrets on my end.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
