Housing market in Salem right now

Curious what people think. I relocated for work and Poverty rate is 11.6%, which is around average. Rent is about $1,800/month for a decent place. Crime rate is something to consider -Salem sits at 248.6 per 100K. Median household income is $85,137, which feels pretty solid for the area. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The suburbs are where most families end up. The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The weather takes some getting used to.

Came here for a fresh start and stayed because it's improved dramatically in recent years. The walkability is honestly excellent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Hot take but I have mixed feelings honestly. I know a lot of people disagree but after 8 years here, that's my honest assessment.
