Anyone regret moving to Salem?

Been meaning to ask this. I'm originally from Phoenix and Poverty rate is 10.8%, which is around average. You can expect to pay around $1,323 for rent here. Homes are going for about $382,400 on average. Rent is about $1,323/month for a decent place. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The suburbs are where most families end up. Does this match your experience? Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value school system, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely better than expected and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Highland) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Denver, be prepared for the culture shock. dating scene is completely different here. And Limited entertainment options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.

I've been here 7 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the job market is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is improving.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Fairview side vs the Oak Park side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I work in hospitality here and I genuinely enjoy living here. The job market for my field is hit or miss. Happy to answer more specific questions..

We moved here with our family and it's not perfect but it works for me. Schools in East area are hit or miss. Kids love it here.
