How is Salem for outdoor activities?

Hey everyone, Median household income is $71,900, which feels about average for the area. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Any advice would be great. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Eastside for 4 years. Moved from San Diego for work. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is underrated. We bought in 2016 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.

**Employment:**
legal is strong here. healthcare is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are affordable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it exceeded my expectations. The outdoor scene is improving - we have lakes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Eastside schools are improving. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Property taxes are high. Bugs and humidity in summer. And community vibe can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For young professionals, I'd say this is a 5/10. Feel free to reach out with questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Weather-wise, the summers are surprisingly good and winters are competitive. You get used to it after the first year.

I've lived in South for about 5 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from Minneapolis, I was surprised by weather. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Lots of new development happening
- The cultural scene scene is average

The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Homeless population growing downtown

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for remote workers. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
