Salem job market vs Minneapolis

Hello, I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Homes are going for about $382,400 on average. Median household income is $71,900, which feels about average for the area. With a population of 177K, Salem is a mid-size city. Poverty rate is 10.8%, which is around average. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Anyone in a similar situation? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The suburbs are where most families end up. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The city has invested a lot in new development. Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.

I've been here 10 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is hit or miss.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Pine Hills side vs the Greenfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Definitely worth checking out..
