Job market in Salem for tech?

Been meaning to ask this. I'm retired and The unemployment rate is 2.8%, which is pretty low. Median household income is $107,617, which feels pretty solid for the area. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Anyone in a similar situation? Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

I'm a sales manager and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. The community is hit or miss and there's always something going on.

We moved here with our family and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Schools in Eastside area are pretty good. Kids love it here.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. it's been a really good experience overall. Compared to Salt Lake City it's hit or miss.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a sales manager, 52, moved here 15 years ago from Portland. I've lived in North and Downtown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Nice parks and green spaces
2. Close to major attractions
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally tough - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Dating scene is rough
2. Limited entertainment options
3. The food scene situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- North: Great for retirees. excellent vibes, walkable.
- Downtown: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Portland, everything felt better than expected. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $90K-$80K here.

**Final verdict:**
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

As someone who grew up here, it was the best decision I ever made. A lot has changed in the past few years though. job market used to be much established but now it's better than expected.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Charlotte and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Midtown. It's tough for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in government. If you're in retail you might struggle.

People: Generally tough. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like sushi.

Hope this helps!.
