Salida in the winter -how bad?

Hey folks, I'm originally from Dallas and It's a a small town city with about 5,786 people. You can expect to pay around $1,567 for rent here. Crime rate is something to consider -Salida sits at 82.5 per 100K. The unemployment rate is 1.6%, which is pretty low. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Anyone in a similar situation? Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The city has invested a lot in new development. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.

I've been here 11 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the nightlife is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is better than expected.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Westside side vs the Old Town side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

The food scene here is challenging. Tons of great Asian places. it's exactly what I was looking for.
