The unemployment rate is 2.9%, which is pretty low. It's a a mid-size city city with about 162K people. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Let me know your thoughts. The city has invested a lot in new development. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want housing market, then yeah this place is great. But if public transit matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a physical therapist, 48, moved here 5 years ago from Austin. I've lived in Downtown and Maple Ridge, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Close to major attractions
2. Affordable housing options
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally solid - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Not very walkable outside downtown
2. Can feel isolated
3. The weather situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Downtown: Great for remote workers. excellent vibes, walkable.
- Maple Ridge: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Austin, everything felt tough. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $60K-$150K here.
**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I've been living here for 11 years and I'd say I love the pace of life here. The outdoor recreation is hit or miss compared to other places I've lived. Overall Happy to answer more specific questions..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I have mixed feelings honestly. Internet is decent in most areas.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The nightlife is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Uptown) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Portland, be prepared for the culture shock. cultural scene is completely different here. And Limited high-paying job options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've lived in Pine Hills for about 3 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from Baltimore, I was surprised by pet-friendliness. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Affordable housing options
- The job market scene is hit or miss
The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Urban sprawl is real
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for singles. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Bought a house here in 2018 and I have mixed feelings honestly. Property values have gone up a bit since then.
