Is Salinas getting better or worse?

Not sure if this has been asked before, but I work in legal and The unemployment rate is 2.9%, which is pretty low. With a population of 162K, Salinas is a mid-size city. Average temperature is around 55°F, so the weather is moderate. Household incomes average around $89,150 in Salinas. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

Pros:
- Friendly people
- Growing food scene
- Good schools
- Close to nature
- Low taxes

Cons:
- Limited public transit
- Limited dining options
- Boring for young people
Would love some local perspective. Property taxes are high but you get good services. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The weather takes some getting used to. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The suburbs are where most families end up. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Bought a house here in 2017 and it was the best decision I ever made. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

Public transit is solid here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I have mixed feelings honestly.
