Raising a family in Salinas — thoughts?

Average temperature is around 55°F, so the weather is moderate. Poverty rate is 11.6%, which is around average. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Worth the trade-offs? It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Property taxes are high but you get good services. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. I've lived in Pine Hills for about 5 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Denver, I was surprised by public transit. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Active local events and festivals
- The healthcare scene is pretty good

The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Nightlife is limited

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for young professionals. Feel free to reach out with questions..
