Random thought, Poverty rate is 2.0%, which is pretty low. Median household income is $173,808, which feels pretty solid for the area. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Anyone in a similar situation? Thanks! The weather takes some getting used to. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

Hot take but it's improved dramatically in recent years. I know a lot of people disagree but after 14 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want traffic, then yeah this place is great. But if traffic matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a social worker, 48, moved here 5 years ago from Portland. I've lived in The Heights and South, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Nice parks and green spaces
2. Good airport with direct flights
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Nightlife is limited
3. The job market situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- The Heights: Great for young professionals. improving vibes, walkable.
- South: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Portland, everything felt improving. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $100K-$80K here.
**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from LA and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Fairview. It's pretty good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in education. If you're in government you might struggle.
People: Generally decent. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like BBQ.
Feel free to reach out with questions..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Atlanta and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Old Town. It's pretty good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in marketing. If you're in retail you might struggle.
People: Generally decent. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Weather-wise, the summers are underrated and winters are stable. You get used to it after the first year.
