Salt Lake City vs Independence — which is better to move to?

My partner and I are deciding between Salt Lake City and Ogden for our next move. We care most about:
- Cost of living
- Safety
- Job market (retail)
- Outdoor activities

Anyone who's lived in either or both — which would you choose and why?

Don't sleep on University District. It's up and coming and still affordable.

Weather is the biggest factor for us. Four seasons are nice, not too extreme either way.

Coming from Miami, the cost of living difference is noticeable. Groceries and gas are about the same.

Can confirm the safety issue. But it really depends on the neighborhood. Midtown and Maple Heights are perfectly safe.

The food scene here is seriously underrated. So many great restaurants.

Downtown is overrated and overpriced. The suburbs offer way better value.

I work in tech and finding a job wasn't hard. Took about 6 months.

Been here 20 years. The city has changed a lot but overall for the better.

Great post! One thing I'd mention is the west side tends to be more affordable. Makes a big difference.

Public transit needs work but they're investing in it. Should improve in next few years.
