Raising a family in Salunga -thoughts?

Homes are going for about $287,200 on average. Crime rate is something to consider -Salunga sits at 280.1 per 100K. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Let me know your thoughts. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Used to live on the Greenfield side, now on the Fairview side. Completely different vibe. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.

I've been here 6 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is public transit. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the nightlife is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is tough.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Meadowbrook side vs the Oak Park side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a sales manager who relocated here from Houston about 14 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and family.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Active local events and festivals
- Four distinct seasons

Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Road conditions need improvement

Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are growing, gas is average.

Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Hope this helps!.

I've been living here for 14 years and I'd say I have mixed feelings honestly. The cost of living is tough compared to other places I've lived. Overall Hope this helps!.

I've lived in Meadowbrook for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Miami, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Close to major attractions
- The outdoor recreation scene is improving

The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Not a lot of cultural diversity

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for families. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
