Hey folks, Poverty rate is 4.9%, which is pretty low. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Anyone in a similar situation? Any help is appreciated. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

I've lived in Downtown for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from Tampa, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Close to major attractions
- Affordable housing options
- The pet-friendliness scene is tough
The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Dating scene is rough
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for singles. Hope this helps!.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is cultural scene. I love the pace of life here. Worth doing your research before committing.

Hot take but I love the pace of life here. I know a lot of people disagree but after 15 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Compared to Austin it's excellent.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a sales manager, 25, moved here 1 years ago from Houston. I've lived in Downtown and Westside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Growing food and restaurant scene
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally hit or miss - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Limited public transit options
3. The safety situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Downtown: Great for families. surprisingly good vibes, walkable.
- Westside: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Houston, everything felt excellent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $100K-$80K here.
**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Hot take but it was the best decision I ever made. I know a lot of people disagree but after 7 years here, that's my honest assessment.

I've lived in Sunset for about 2 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from LA, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good internet infrastructure
- The outdoor recreation scene is challenging
The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Winters are long and cold
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for singles. Hope this helps!.
