Been living here since 2021. Household incomes average around $64,146 in San Angelo. With a population of 99,507, San Angelo is a smaller city. Poverty rate is 8.1%, which is pretty low. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The suburbs are where most families end up. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Let me know your thoughts. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The suburbs are where most families end up. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a chef who relocated here from Chicago about 12 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and quality of life.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good airport with direct flights
- Diverse dining options
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Property taxes are high
Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are competitive, gas is challenging.
Socially, I love the pace of life here. Definitely worth checking out..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is food scene. it's been a really good experience overall. Worth doing your research before committing.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from Charlotte and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in East. It's surprisingly good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in marketing. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.
People: Generally challenging. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.
Hope this helps!.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. the quality of life is solid. Internet is surprisingly good in most areas.

Hot take but I love the pace of life here. I know a lot of people disagree but after 6 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value weather, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely improving and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (The Heights) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Salt Lake City, be prepared for the culture shock. cultural scene is completely different here. And Can feel isolated.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
