Not sure if this has been asked before, but I'm a nurse at the local hospital and The unemployment rate is 2.0%, which is pretty low. Median household income is $64,146, which feels about average for the area. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Property taxes are high but you get good services. What are your go-to spots?

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.
I've been here 7 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the nightlife is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is underrated.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Downtown side vs the Midtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..

I've lived in Highland for about 12 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Charlotte, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Lots of new development happening
- The healthcare scene is average
The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for remote workers. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Compared to Dallas it's solid.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from Charlotte and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Old Town. It's excellent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in real estate. If you're in finance you might struggle.
People: Generally better than expected. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: average. Tons of options if you like sushi.
No regrets on my end..

Bought a house here in 2016 and I genuinely enjoy living here. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

My experience has been mostly positive. I genuinely enjoy living here. The only thing I'd watch out for is community vibe. Other than that, Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a electrician who relocated here from Houston about 15 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are wild, gas is solid.
Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. No regrets on my end..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Internet is challenging in most areas.
