Anyone else feel this way? My family moved here when I was a kid. Household incomes average around $64,146 in San Angelo. Median household income is $64,146, which feels about average for the area. The suburbs are where most families end up. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Am I overthinking this?

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value community vibe, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely average and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (South) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from San Diego, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Compared to Boston it's better than expected.

I've been living here for 11 years and I'd say the quality of life is solid. The school system is surprisingly good compared to other places I've lived. Overall Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Bought a house here in 2017 and it's not perfect but it works for me. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a physical therapist who relocated here from Phoenix about 3 years ago. The main reasons were work and a fresh start.
Pros I've experienced:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Four distinct seasons
- Affordable housing options
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Limited high-paying job options
Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are established, gas is improving.
Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Came here for cost of living and stayed because I genuinely enjoy living here. The outdoor recreation is honestly surprisingly good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's not perfect but it works for me. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want pet-friendliness, then yeah this place is great. But if food scene matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Greenfield for 8 years. Moved from Seattle for weather. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is solid. We bought in 2022 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.
**Employment:**
tech is strong here. construction is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are manageable for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The outdoor scene is solid - we have hiking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Greenfield schools are excellent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Winters are long and cold. Chain restaurants dominate. And dating scene can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 6/10. Hope this helps!. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

If you value outdoor recreation, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely tough and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (Fairview) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Seattle, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

We moved here with our family and it's been a really good experience overall. Schools in Uptown area are surprisingly good. Kids love it here.
