Hey folks, I'm a 35-year-old social worker and Crime rate is something to consider -San Angelo sits at 353.2 per 100K. Rent is about $1,121/month for a decent place. Average temperature is around 69--F, so the weather is moderate. It's a a smaller city city with about 99,507 people. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. What neighborhoods would you suggest? Cheers. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is community vibe. it was the best decision I ever made. Worth doing your research before committing.

I've lived in Midtown for about 1 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Dallas, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Strong job market in several industries
- The safety scene is hit or miss
The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Limited entertainment options
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for families. Definitely worth checking out..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a writer, 45, moved here 6 years ago from Pittsburgh. I've lived in Westside and Sunset, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Four distinct seasons
2. Affordable housing options
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally solid - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Road conditions need improvement
3. The job market situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Westside: Great for retirees. excellent vibes, walkable.
- Sunset: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Pittsburgh, everything felt excellent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is established. You can live comfortably on $70K-$100K here.
**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from New York, I was surprised by nightlife. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Good airport with direct flights
- The traffic scene is challenging
The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Limited entertainment options
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for singles. No regrets on my end..

Bought a house here in 2017 and I love the pace of life here. Property values have gone about the same since then.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want safety, then yeah this place is great. But if dating scene matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Hot take but I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. I know a lot of people disagree but after 8 years here, that's my honest assessment.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Dallas and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Uptown. It's challenging for what you get.
Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in government. If you're in government you might struggle.
People: Generally tough. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: decent. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.
Hope this helps!.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.
I've been here 1 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is better than expected.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Cedar Grove side vs the Midtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
