Random thought, Is this normal for San Bruno? Property taxes are high but you get good services.

I've been living here for 14 years and I'd say it's improved dramatically in recent years. The housing market is decent compared to other places I've lived. Overall Happy to answer more specific questions..

I'm a accountant who relocated here from Pittsburgh about 3 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and school.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Nice parks and green spaces
Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Can feel isolated
Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are established, gas is surprisingly good.
Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good schools in most areas
- Decent public transit for the size
Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Limited entertainment options
Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are established, gas is underrated.
Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Background: I'm a nurse, 37, moved here 11 years ago from Minneapolis. I've lived in Oak Park and Sunset, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Growing food and restaurant scene
3. Nice parks and green spaces
4. The people are generally excellent - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Property taxes are high
3. The healthcare situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Oak Park: Great for young professionals. improving vibes, walkable.
- Sunset: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Minneapolis, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is developing. You can live comfortably on $40K-$130K here.

Cons that are real:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Homeless population growing downtown
Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are competitive, gas is pretty good.
