Rent vs buy in San Carlos -what makes sense?

Born and raised here. The unemployment rate is 10.1%, which is concerning. You can expect to pay around $397 for rent here. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Am I wrong here? Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Feel free to reach out with questions..

I've lived in West for about 3 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Dallas, I was surprised by public transit. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The safety scene is improving

The downsides:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Homeless population growing downtown

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for young professionals. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
