Considering San Clemente vs New York -help me decide
Not sure if this has been asked before, but I'm a remote worker and Homes are going for about $1,220,500 on average. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. What do you all think? The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The suburbs are where most families end up. The suburbs are where most families end up.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.
I've been here 8 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is food scene. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is average.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The South side vs the North side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

Weather-wise, the summers are better than expected and winters are wild. You get used to it after the first year.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want nightlife, then yeah this place is great. But if traffic matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from LA and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Westside. It's challenging for what you get.
Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in education. If you're in retail you might struggle.
People: Generally better than expected. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like Indian.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Bought a house here in 2024 and the quality of life is solid. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value job market, you'll love it. The cultural scene is genuinely decent and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Lakewood) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Baltimore, be prepared for the culture shock. housing market is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've been living here for 14 years and I'd say I'm still on the fence after all this time. The community vibe is tough compared to other places I've lived. Overall Definitely worth checking out..
