Thinking about relocating to San Diego from Boston
Been meaning to ask this. Military spouse here. Household incomes average around $104,321 in San Diego. Average temperature is around 61°F, so the weather is moderate. Homes are going for about $848,500 on average. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The suburbs are where most families end up. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Has anyone dealt with this? It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The city has invested a lot in new development. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value food scene, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely average and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (The Heights) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Seattle, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Chain restaurants dominate.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Weather-wise, the summers are surprisingly good and winters are pricey. You get used to it after the first year.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is cost of living. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Worth doing your research before committing.
