Curious what people think. The unemployment rate is 1.9%, which is pretty low. Rent is about $874/month for a decent place. Median household income is $47,946, which feels on the lower side for the area. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The suburbs are where most families end up. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value housing market, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely average and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (South) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Miami, be prepared for the culture shock. housing market is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Came here for a job opportunity and stayed because I'm still on the fence after all this time. The healthcare is honestly tough and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from Salt Lake City and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Eastside. It's solid for what you get.
Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in real estate. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.
People: Generally solid. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like sushi.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is outdoor recreation. the quality of life is solid. Worth doing your research before committing.

I've lived in Midtown for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Boston, I was surprised by pet-friendliness. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good internet infrastructure
- The walkability scene is challenging
The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Limited shopping options
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for retirees. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Weather-wise, the summers are surprisingly good and winters are wild. You get used to it after the first year.
