Hello, We have two kids and Homes are going for about $229,800 on average. Median household income is $60,078, which feels about average for the area. The city has invested a lot in new development. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The city has invested a lot in new development. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The city has invested a lot in new development. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

Bought a house here in 2023 and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are solid, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from Nashville and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in South. It's underrated for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in tech. If you're in government you might struggle.
People: Generally improving. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like sushi.
Hope this helps!.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.
I've been here 1 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is hit or miss.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Meadowbrook side vs the Eastside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

Came here for weather and stayed because it's been a really good experience overall. The housing market is honestly excellent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a teacher who relocated here from Chicago about 5 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Strong job market in several industries
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are developing, gas is improving.
Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Good luck with whatever you decide..

I've lived in Old Town for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from Atlanta, I was surprised by housing market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good schools in most areas
- The dating scene scene is improving
The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Nightlife is limited
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for remote workers. No regrets on my end..
