The good and bad of living in San Fernando

Just moved here 3 months ago and Average temperature is around 67--F, so the weather is moderate. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Thoughts? Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Used to live on the Greenfield side, now on the Downtown side. Completely different vibe. I love the pace of life here.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value walkability, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely underrated and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (Fairview) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Austin, be prepared for the culture shock. public transit is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
