If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Internet is solid in most areas.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a social worker, 39, moved here 5 years ago from Chicago. I've lived in Cedar Grove and Maple Ridge, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Good healthcare facilities
3. Strong job market in several industries
4. The people are generally pretty good - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Homeless population growing downtown
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The healthcare situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Cedar Grove: Great for families. pretty good vibes, walkable.
- Maple Ridge: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Chicago, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $80K-$140K here.
**Final verdict:**

Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in government. If you're in retail you might struggle.
People: Generally challenging. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want dating scene, then yeah this place is great. But if public transit matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

I've been living here for 2 years and I'd say the quality of life is solid. The traffic is better than expected compared to other places I've lived. Overall Good luck with whatever you decide..
