Relocating to San Francisco, CA — pros and cons?

Hey folks, You can expect to pay around $2,419 for rent here. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Let me know your thoughts. The city has invested a lot in new development. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

Bought a house here in 2022 and the quality of life is solid. Property values have gone about the same since then.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely underrated and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (North) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Austin, be prepared for the culture shock. housing market is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is pet-friendliness. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Worth doing your research before committing.
