I work in real estate and It's a a smaller city city with about 38,764 people. Household incomes average around $87,592 in San Gabriel. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The weather takes some getting used to. Am I overthinking this? Thanks!

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Dallas about 5 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and school.
Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Lots of new development happening
- Affordable housing options
Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Chain restaurants dominate
Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are pricey, gas is decent.
Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value walkability, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely excellent and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Uptown) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Minneapolis, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from Chicago about 10 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Good internet infrastructure
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Property taxes are high
Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are stable, gas is tough.
Socially, it exceeded my expectations. No regrets on my end..

Public transit is better than expected here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's been a really good experience overall.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Sunset for 3 years. Moved from San Diego for a fresh start. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is excellent. We bought in 2018 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.
**Employment:**
manufacturing is strong here. legal is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are competitive for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I'm still on the fence after all this time. The outdoor scene is improving - we have state parks within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Sunset schools are average. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Can feel isolated. Bugs and humidity in summer. And school system can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 7/10. No regrets on my end.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
