Not sure if this has been asked before, but I grew up here but left for a while. It's a a mid-size city city with about 321K people. The median home value here is around $174,000, which is actually reasonable. Median household income is $27,500, which feels on the lower side for the area. Rent is about $598/month for a decent place. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Property taxes are high but you get good services. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The weather takes some getting used to. Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Compared to Minneapolis it's solid.

I've been living here for 8 years and I'd say it's improved dramatically in recent years. The job market is better than expected compared to other places I've lived. Overall Definitely worth checking out..

Hot take but it was the best decision I ever made. I know a lot of people disagree but after 8 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want weather, then yeah this place is great. But if school system matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Weather-wise, the summers are excellent and winters are developing. You get used to it after the first year.

Bought a house here in 2019 and I have mixed feelings honestly. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.
I've been here 10 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is public transit. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the safety is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is solid.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The North side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are solid, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Raleigh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Midtown. It's better than expected for what you get.
Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in consulting. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.
People: Generally excellent. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Mexican.
