Anyone work in healthcare in San Marcos?

Anyone else feel this way? I'm a teacher here and Household incomes average around $105,286 in San Marcos. Rent is about $2,191/month for a decent place. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Does this match your experience? Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

I'm a teacher and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. The community is improving and there's always something going on.

I've lived in Oak Park for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from Baltimore, I was surprised by healthcare. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Affordable housing options
- The traffic scene is surprisingly good

The downsides:
- Nightlife is limited
- Limited entertainment options

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for couples. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I've lived in Greenfield for about 3 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from Boston, I was surprised by housing market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- The dating scene scene is pretty good

The downsides:
- Can feel isolated
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for couples. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value safety, you'll love it. The cultural scene is genuinely decent and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Greenfield) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Portland, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

If you value school system, you'll love it. The safety is genuinely underrated and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Oak Park) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a teacher, 25, moved here 5 years ago from Charlotte. I've lived in Oak Park and Uptown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Decent public transit for the size
3. Four distinct seasons
4. The people are generally excellent - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Not very walkable outside downtown
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The school system situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Oak Park: Great for couples. average vibes, walkable.
- Uptown: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Charlotte, everything felt average. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $70K-$130K here.

**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
