Curious what people think. I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Household incomes average around $78,215 in San Pablo. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from Dallas and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Maple Ridge. It's average for what you get.
Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in consulting. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.
People: Generally pretty good. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Southern.
Definitely worth checking out..

Background: I'm a software engineer, 58, moved here 1 years ago from Raleigh. I've lived in Westside and Highland, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Good healthcare facilities
3. Four distinct seasons
4. The people are generally excellent - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Not a lot of cultural diversity
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The job market situation is affordable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Westside: Great for remote workers. better than expected vibes, walkable.
- Highland: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Raleigh, everything felt surprisingly good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $80K-$120K here.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The weather is genuinely solid and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Eastside) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Phoenix, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
