Military spouse here. Homes are going for about $1,246,200 on average. The unemployment rate is 3.8%, which is pretty low. You can expect to pay around $2,346 for rent here. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

Pros:
- Affordable cost of living
- Great weather
- Nice parks and trails
- Lots of new development
- Good internet infrastructure

Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- Limited nightlife
- Not enough green space
What neighborhoods would you suggest? Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The city has invested a lot in new development. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Charlotte and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in West. It's decent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in retail. If you're in finance you might struggle.

People: Generally challenging. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like Thai.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Came here for work and stayed because I genuinely enjoy living here. The nightlife is honestly improving and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a software engineer, 47, moved here 9 years ago from Charlotte. I've lived in West and Springfield, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good healthcare facilities
2. Decent public transit for the size
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally average - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Chain restaurants dominate
2. Limited entertainment options
3. The healthcare situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- West: Great for families. excellent vibes, walkable.
- Springfield: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Charlotte, everything felt improving. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $50K-$130K here.

**Final verdict:**
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
