San Rafael is underrated, change my mind

I work in marketing and The median home value here is around $1,246,200, which is pretty steep. You can expect to pay around $2,346 for rent here. Average temperature is around 60--F, so the weather is moderate. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

Pros:
- Great weather
- Low taxes
- Good healthcare facilities
- Walkable downtown

Cons:
- Cold winters
- Rising rent prices
- Homelessness issues downtown
Has anyone dealt with this? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want walkability, then yeah this place is great. But if public transit matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a social worker who relocated here from Baltimore about 8 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Four distinct seasons

Cons that are real:
- Can feel isolated
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are stable, gas is underrated.

Socially, the quality of life is solid. Happy to answer more specific questions..
